Student Volunteering Week
February 22nd - 28th
After the massive success of London Student Volunteers' Fortnight KUSU Volunteering presents National Student Volunteering week, running from Monday February 22nd to Sunday February 28th.
We are laying on a number of exciting opportunities for you to get involved in and we will be adding to these as the week grows nearer, these events include:
Hogsmill River Clean Up
Monday 22nd February, all welcome!
The Hogsmill river runs through Kingston University campus and is of great importance both environmentally and historically (in the 19th century this famous picture was painted upstream). Every year we like to clean up the Knight's Park section of the river to give something back to the community and to get outside. It is always good fun and food and hot drinks will be provided. Email Alex at a.britton@kingston.ac.uk for more information.
Knitting Club
Tuesday 23rd February 11am-2pm
Wednesday 24th of February 1pm-3pm
Kingston student Lisa is running a project to knit 120 hats for new born babies in London. Can you help her? You don't need to be an expert knitter. We're running two drop in sessions on SV Week on Tuesday and Wednesday so why not come along and give 20 minutes of your time doing something fun and worthwhile? Email m.crosby@kingston.ac.uk for more info.
Seeability
Tuesday 23rd February
Seeability is a fantastic charity based in Leatherhead that supports people who are visually impaired and have other disabilities. We’re giving students the opportunity to visit the Seeability centre, get involved on a one-off basis and find out if volunteering more regularly is for you. Email Alex on a.britton@kingston.ac.uk for more information including times.
St. John Ambulance Taster Evening
Wednesday 24th February
Could you be a first aider? St. John Ambulance is the UK’s leading first aid charity. Over 40,000 people across the country are St. John Ambulance volunteers and you could be too. We are holding a taster evening in partnership with the local St. John Ambulance group- come along, see what a meeting’s like, ask questions and get a feeling for being a volunteer. Email Alex on a.britton@kingston.ac.uk to sign up and get more information.
Coach a Tennis Session in School
This opportunity is now full. To find out more about schools volunteering email Alex at a.britton@kingston.ac.uk.
Battle of the Fundraisers vs. Imperial College London
Thursday 25th February, 18 volunteers needed.
KUSU Volunteers have a fundraising battle with Imperial College London at London Waterloo station to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital. To get an idea of how important fundraising for the hospital is, volunteers who are taking part get a free tour of Great Ormond Street Hospital the week before. To register an interest email Martin at m.crosby@kingston.ac.uk
Thanks for Life: Fundraiser for Polio in partnership with Kingston Rotary Club
Friday the 26th and Saturday 27th of February, 20 volunteers needed
