Kingston Advocacy Group Appropriate Adult Scheme
Kingston Advocacy Group was formed in 1989 to promote and protect the rights of the individual, providing them with a voice where that person may be unable to speak for themselves. If it is necessary for a young person to go to a police station, it is a legality that an adult is present. Often the young person may not wish to contact a family member to fulfil this role. In this instance an ‘Appropriate Adult’ will provide the necessary adult presence. There may be times you will accompany a vulnerable person with learning difficulties or mental health issues. The Law Centre advises individuals in regards to social welfare aspects of the law. They advise individuals from low income backgrounds and manage sessions which give free access to legal advice for the general public. The Law Centre take on case that clarify and extend rights for the public. It provides legal education, training and information about the law and people's rights. The individual will be required to: answer calls and direct to relevant solicitor or an alternative source of help, help prepare trial bundles for court, carry out general administrative duties including faxing, photocopying and typing.
