Advocacy Partners Richmond
Advocacy Partners train and support volunteers to become Citizen Advocates, people who work with older people and those who have learning disabilities to ensure that they can have their rights respected, their voices heard and can have real control over their life decisions, helping them to be treated fairly and participate fully in community life. they're trained then paired with people in the Kingston Borough who need an advocate. They then work with them to get changes made to improve their lives, for example, this could be accompanying them to a doctor's appointment to ensure their decision about their own healthcare are followed; helping them work with social workers to get the best possible care package, or helping them get involved in new leisure activities. Volunteers need to be excellent communicators, outgoing, mature and patient.
When: twice a month, minimum commitment12 months after training.
Where: Volunteers are paired with a person who lives in the Borough of Richmond, and meets with them, usually at their home (which is often a care/residential home).

Age Concern- Raleigh House
Age Concern- Raleigh House
Raleigh House is a friendly, welcoming day centre run by Age Concern. Older people from across the Borough come every day to have lunch, chat and take part activities such as book readings, discussion, games and crafts. Volunteers are needed to help with lunches, chat to residents and to help plan and run activities.
When: about once a week for 4 hours+, any weekday between 9am and 4pm. Help would particularly be welcomed at lunchtimes and early afternoons.

The Buddy Scheme
The Buddy Scheme is a befriending project which pairs volunteers with adults with learning disabilities to help them enjoy their social time and leisure activities. Volunteers visit the service-user they are matched with on a one-to-one basis regularly over a long period of time, taking them out for activities like shopping, coffee, to the pub, the cinema, bowling etc. building up a relationship, encouraging them to make independent choices, boosting their confidence and preventing social isolation. There are also regular events such and parties and bowling where all the Buddys and service-users meet together.Full training is provided.
When: 2-3 times a month, for minimum 12 months. The length of the session depends on the chosen activity, usually 2-3 hours.
Where: anywhere in Kingston depending on the activity.
Kingston Advocacy Group Appropriate Adult Scheme
The Appropriate Adult Scheme supports young people or individuals with mental health problems and/or learning disabilities who have been taken into police custody. Advocates sit in with the individual being interviewed, ensuring that they're fully aware of what is taking place, and that their youth/disability isn't being used against them.
When: Any time, usually evenings up until 11pm- volunteers sign up to a rota to put themselves 'on call' for at least 2 sessions per month, then are contacted if required. Minimum commitment of 12 months after the 6 week training period.
Where: Kingston Police Station.
Please note that volunteers must live within 30 minutes' travelling time of Kingston Police Station.

Kingston and Richmond Law Centre
The Law Centre provides advice in regards to social welfare aspects of the law. It advises individuals who qualify for legal aid and manage sessions which give free access to legal advice for the general public. It also provides legal education, training and information about the law and people's rights. Volunteers are needed to help withanswering phonecalls, directing customers to the relevant solicitor or an alternative source of help, helping prepare trial bundles for court, and general administrative duties including faxing, photocopying and typing.
When: One day a week, monday-friday, 9-5pm
Where: Kingston/Richmond with occasional court visits elsewhere including central London.
