Why Volunteer?
Volunteering is a great mixture of helping other and helping yourself as well!
As well as doing something for the community, meeting new people and having a good time, volunteering can give your career a great kick start. Employers are looking for more than just a degree and graduates today need to develop skills that they can only get from going out there and getting some real experience.
So, you want to go into marketing? Fundraise for a charity. You want to be an events manager? Run your own project. You want to be a teacher? Get some experience setting up activities for children in schools. You want to be an actor? Set up drama workshops or performances in community groups or schools.
Volunteering can help you by:
• Giving you the chance to meet like-minded people
• Improving your job prospects and employability
• Opening up new opportunities and challenges
• Giving you experience of what life in the Charity (Third) Sector is like
• Providing you with a break from studying that you'll feel good about in the morning.
As well as providing you with the opportunities, we also have Development Portfolios which help volunteers to record their experiences, recognise the skills they're developing and talk about both in interviews.
