NSLP Skills Sessions
Communication Skills – The aim of this session is to enable participants to apply a range of interpersonal communication skills with confidence. By the end of the sessions participants will be able to describe the cycle of communication, discuss how language use to communicate information, describe the importance of listening techniques, use body language that encourages communication, describe how using tone of voice is important in verbal communication.
Leadership – This session enables participants to feel confident in their ability to develop their knowledge, skills and attributes as leaders. By the en of the session participants will be able to discuss leadership, discuss the knowledge, skills and attributes of an effective leader, and identify activities that will help them to develop their leadership skills.
Working in Teams - This session aims to enable participants to feel confident in their ability to use their communication, problem solving skills to work effectively as part of a team. By the end of the session participants will be able to explain what makes a team effective, understand and have practices some of the theories around team roles, practised team work through some practical exercises
Being more assertive - This session aims to enable participants to use a range of interpersonal and personal skills so that they can confidently assert their needs. By the end of the session participants will be able to describe passive, assertive and aggressive behaviours discuss your own levels of assertiveness, Identified situations where you can be more assertive.
Problem Solving - This session enables participants to confidently apply a range of personal and interpersonal skills in the process of problem solving. By the end of this session participants will be able to define what a problem is, discuss brain function and the role of creativity in problem solving, apply practised techniques
Meeting Skills – This session enables participants to feel confident in using their skills to effectively participate in meetings. By the end of the session participants will be able to describe the function and structure of meetings, discuss the responsibilities of the chairperson, secretary, and participants, and apply a range of skills in a meeting situation.
Time Management - This session aims to enable participants to feel confident in their own ability to manage their time and to facilitate and understanding of what time management entails. By the end of this session participants will be able to understand what is meant by time management, assess their own ability to manage time, list tips for improving their management of time, and commit to personal time management goals for the future
